Pundit thinks Liverpool are going to have two ‘frightening’ midfielders in 2023

Emile Heskey has hailed Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, believing the duo will be ‘frightening’ for Liverpool next season and beyond.

Whenever Liverpool fans start to think the Reds have turned a corner this season, they’re brought back down to earth.

After beating Manchester City and West Ham United at Anfield, Liverpool came unstuck again, this time at Nottingham Forest.

Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal handed Forest an unlikely win and left Jurgen Klopp with more questions to answer.

Liverpool just haven’t been at their usual level this season and Klopp can’t seem to string results together.

Many have pointed out that Liverpool’s midfield seems to be in decline.

Fabinho has been well off it this season whilst both Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson are both into their 30’s and it feels like fresh energy is needed.

Liverpool do though have two exciting midfield prospects in Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho.

Both youngsters were snapped up from Fulham having shown promise in the Craven Cottage ranks.

Elliott was originally a winger but has been utilised more as a midfielder under Klopp, whilst playmaker Carvalho started on the left flank against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The duo couldn’t help Liverpool claim a positive result at the City Ground but do look to have the potential to become stars at Anfield.

Former Reds striker Emile Heskey has now heaped praise on both players.

Heskey has told the Daily Mail that he thinks both Carvalho and Elliott are ‘going to be frightening’ for Liverpool within a year.

Heskey believes that the duo will learn all about the consistency they need to show in the Premier League and thinks they are destined to shine in 2023.

“It would be good if they could spruce up their midfield,” said Heskey. “Don’t get me wrong, they’ve got fantastic players: Fabinho, Thiago, but they are ageing now. They’ve got Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliott who are coming through and actually making a difference as well.”

“Consistency might not be with them right now, but in six months to a year, they’re going to be frightening because they’ll understand the consistency that is needed,” he added.

We’re still backing Liverpool to make a big signing in midfield – think Jude Bellingham – but the hope is that Elliott and Carvalho can really kick on and excel for years to come.
