Liverpool want Douglas Luiz and believe the Aston Villa midfielder could be ideal because he won’t prevent a move for Jude Bellingham next summer.
The Reds have won their last two games but question marks still linger about their midfield.
Relying on Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Thiago is always a gamble with all three in their 30’s whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones and Naby Keita seem to have stalled at Anfield.
Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are showing huge potential but another option in the engine room is needed with a number of injuries facing Jurgen Klopp in that area.
Liverpool want Douglas Luiz
One name in the mix is Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.
The Daily Mail report that Liverpool have been sounded out about signing Douglas Luiz before tonight’s transfer deadline.
Liverpool allegedly want a physical presence in midfield and believe that Douglas Luiz can provide what Klopp is seeking.
The reason Liverpool think Douglas Luiz could be perfect is because he won’t break the bank.
Douglas Luiz is out of contract next summer and Villa may face bids for the Brazilian today, given that he can leave for free in just a matter of months.
Liverpool don’t want to sign a big-money midfielder now because it may price them out of the race for Jude Bellingham in 2023.
Douglas Luiz would fit the bill, adding numbers to the Liverpool midfield whilst keeping Liverpool in that Bellingham race.
Douglas Luiz scored for Villa on Wednesday night, finding the net direct from a corner as Villa lost 2-1 away at Arsenal.
The 24-year-old has proven himself to be a quality holding midfielder Villa and he was highly-regarded at Manchester City too.
There may be a problem though, as Sky Sports claim that Villa are ready to rebuff any bids for Douglas Luiz on deadline day.
This one won’t be an easy deal for Liverpool, and it may be a case of now or never for them, as they would be unlikely to sign Douglas Luiz in January given that the move for Bellingham would just be months away.
