Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that it is a ‘joke’ that striker Divock Origi can’t even make it into his matchday squad.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 on Wednesday night as Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino both found the net in the second half.

Arsenal were lively in the first half and Liverpool certainly weren’t themselves before kicking into gear after the break.

It certainly helped that Klopp was able to call upon both Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino from the bench.

With Salah, Firmino, Jota, Sadio Mane and January signing Luis Diaz all available at Klopp’s disposal, Liverpool have an embarrassment of riches in attack.

Having five attackers of that quality could be key for Liverpool in the title race, but it means other miss out.

Takumi Minamino made the bench against Arsenal but there was no sign of Divock Origi, who wasn’t even a substitute at the Emirates Stadium.

Origi is out of contact at Liverpool this summer, meaning he is just months away from leaving Anfield for absolutely nothing.

The Belgian forward has been a cult hero at Liverpool but his chances of first-team minutes have only been hurt by Diaz’s arrival.

There is almost no way for Origi to get into this front three, and not even being on the bench against Arsenal suggests he is now seventh-choice in Liverpool’s attack.

That surely won’t be enough for Origi to want to stay, and Klopp doesn’t exactly like this situation.

Klopp has told the Liverpool Echo that Origi not even making the squad is a ‘joke’ because he is playing so well in training.

“Divock Origi was not in the squad today, that’s a joke as well because if you see him training you would think, ‘how can you leave him at home?’ But that’s it,” said Klopp.

Klopp is spoiled with attacking options right now, and at the moment, Origi is the odd man out for the Premier League run-in.
