Dietmar Hamann has criticised Pep Lijnders for releasing a book about Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side whilst still working at Anfield.

This isn’t the start to the season Liverpool fans will have been expecting.

Drawing 2-2 with Fulham on the opening weekend was far from impressive and, save for a 9-0 thrashing of Bournemouth, it has mostly been the same for weeks.

Even the win against Newcastle wasn’t convincing and fans are now in panic mode after Wednesday’s defeat to Napoli.

Liverpool were truly terrible in the first half against Napoli, falling to a 3-0 deficit before eventually losing 4-1.

Liverpool appear to be lacking intensity right now and their defending has been suspect at best; in truth, last night’s defeat has been coming.

Jurgen Klopp needs to try and find some answers soon because Liverpool’s season is already in danger of being derailed after just over a month.

Liverpool have a long injury list at the moment and their big-money signing Darwin Nunez needs time to settle in England.

Yet with some big-name players looking terribly off-colour this season, Liverpool are in a real struggle.

Fingers are being pointed at Klopp, FSG and certain players but former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann has looked at Pep Lijnders.

Now, you wouldn’t think that Klopp’s assistant could be a source of concern but Hamann isn’t happy.

Lijnders has released a book called ‘Intensity: Inside Liverpool FC’, and it’s described as giving ‘expert first hand insight into everything from training to tactics and team talks’.

It’s unlikely that Lijnders has given away all the secrets of Klopp’s approach, but some believe that the timing hasn’t been quite right.

Hamann has taken to Twitter to suggest that ‘alarm bells should have been ringing’ because Lijnders was allowed to release the book whilst still employed by Liverpool.

Hamann added that he has no idea why Lijnders was allowed to release the book as Liverpool were preparing for the new season.

A book isn’t going to be the sole reason for Liverpool’s drop in form and intensity, and there are so many other problems.

From Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defensive issues to a struggling midfield, Liverpool have bigger issues right now.

The Dutchman surely won’t be losing too much sleep about this criticism and will be working hard alongside Klopp to get Liverpool back on track; maybe he can even release another book should there be a great fightback this season…
