Liverpool are set to lose a defender this summer as the Reds ace is heading for a medical to join his new club.
Arne Slot’s Liverpool have been quiet in the summer transfer window as the Dutchman prepares for his maiden season at Anfield after replacing Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds do, however, seem to be kicking into action sooner rather than later with sources telling HITC that Liverpool have received encouragement over a deal for Martin Zubimendi after the Real Sociedad midfielder gave his approval to a move.
Arsenal had tried to sign Zubimendi earlier in the window but the Gunners pivoted to other targets after Zubimendi made it clear he didn’t want to leave San Sebastian but that view seems to have changed.
Billy Koumetio set for Dundee United medical
Liverpool are also understood to be keen on adding a new defender this summer with the Reds ‘working hard’ to sign Leny Yoro before the teenager signed for Manchester United.
it appears that one teenage defender is on the move this summer with reports stating that Billy Koumetio is heading out of Anfield.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to the Scottish club Dundee United in recent weeks as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of next season.
According to French journalist Marc Mechenoua, who was formerly working with GOAL, Koumetio is heading to Dundee.
The French journalist states the Lyon-born defender is set to sign a two-year contract, with the Scottish Premiership club having the option of a year extension and will have a medical soon.
Koumetio has had multiple loan spells away from Liverpool with the most recent being Ligue 2 side Dunkerque before making one appearance for Blackburn Rovers and the Frenchman impressed against Newcastle United.
Koumetio yet to be given chance but is on his way out of Liverpool
Back in 2020, the Frenchman completed a move to Liverpool from Orleans but has just played one game for the senior team during that time.
Koumetio featured for Liverpool during a 7-2 pre-season friendly victory against Blackpool but he struggled.
However, despite being substituted off at half-time against Blackpool, Klopp believed he had a bright future.
“Billy played super balls, super passes and was there,” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo. “Our last line played [for the] first time together like this, it is completely fine, but we were just not high enough.”
It now seems the Frenchman is set to ply his trade in Scotland with Dundee United.
