When Liverpool signed Liam Hughes on transfer deadline day, it barely even made the news.
The Reds signed two centre backs in Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, bolstering Jurgen Klopp’s back line as they arrived from Preston and Schalke respectively.
Liverpool did also sign Hughes though, securing the goalkeeper from Celtic in a move that flew right under the radar.
Hughes hadn’t made the breakthrough to first-team action at Parkhead, but quickly took a huge step forward at Liverpool.
With Alisson and Caiomhin Kelleher both missing against Sheffield United last month, Hughes was named on the bench for a Premier League game for the first time.
The 19-year-old has made three Premier League 2 appearances for the Reds, and has now received another major piece of positive news.

Hughes has been called up to the Northern Ireland senior squad for the first time, meaning he is in contention to face Italy, the United States or Bulgaria in the international break.
Hughes joins current Celtic stopper Conor Hazard in the squad, as well as Burnley’s Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Derry City’s Nathan Gartside as boss Ian Baraclough goes with four goalkeepers.
From being a relative unknown at Celtic to potentially becoming a senior international, Hughes is really reaping the rewards of joining Liverpool.
