Darwin Nunez has joined Liverpool and has admitted being surprised by the quality of the club’s training ground – and all of their trophies.
Liverpool have been eyeing up a new attacker of late in the knowledge that Sadio Mane is seemingly heading for Bayern Munich this summer.
Liverpool’s top target quickly became clear as the club pushed to sign Benfica striker Nunez – and they have now got their man.
There were links to a host of other attackers, from Christian Pulisic to Joao Pedro and even Robert Lewandowski, but Liverpool have gone with Nunez.
Darwin Nunez has joined Liverpool
After days of speculation, Liverpool have completed the signing of Nunez in a deal worth up to £85million (€100million).
Nunez racked up 34 goals and four assists in 41 outings for Benfica last season, becoming one of the top young strikers in Europe.
Nunez may not be seen as being on the same level as Manchester City striker Erling Haaland just yet.
However, Liverpool will feel that they have their top strikers for years to come now with Nunez having enormous potential at just 22.
Nunez will now hope to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Uruguayan Luis Suarez by becoming an Anfield hero.

Liverpool’s new man has been speaking about his move and specifically about his surprise upon visiting the club’s training ground.
Nunez has told Liverpool’s official website that he was ‘really surprised’ to see such an impressive setup at the Reds’ state-of-the-art AXA Training Centre.
The facilities and the trophies on show seemingly left Nunez stunned, and he now can’t wait to start winning silverware of his own as a Liverpool player.
“When I arrived at the training ground, I was really surprised to see the set-up and the structure and all the trophies here,” said Nunez. “You can then imagine yourself winning more trophies and then later on when you come here again and see the trophies on display, you can say, ‘Look, I was a part of that, I was there at that time, winning trophies.’ That’s one of the reasons why I came here to Liverpool – to win trophies and titles. I want to win a lot of trophies at Liverpool,” he added.
Everybody knows of Liverpool’s incredible history but seeing the trophies first-hand will have been quite the experience for Nunez.
Nunez’s only two trophies in football came at Penarol in Uruguay back in 2017 and 2018, so seeing Champions League and Premier League trophies will have really made an impact on the striker.
