Jurgen Klopp will be patient with Darwin Nunez with Liverpool’s big summer signing enduring a difficult start to life in England.

The Reds lost Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich over the summer and simply had to bring in a new attacker to replace him.

Liverpool don’t tend to go for the finished product and they chose to strike a club-record £85million deal for Benfica striker Nunez.

The Uruguayan was sensational for Benfica last season and Liverpool were hoping to see him hit the ground running – but it just hasn’t happened.

Jurgen Klopp will be patient with Darwin Nunez

The Telegraph report that Liverpool boss Klopp ‘radically changed’ his plans for Nunez this season after seeing him in just a couple of training sessions.

It became clear that Nunez is a work in progress and needs time to adjust to life at Liverpool, just like Andrew Robertson and Fabinho before him.

Klopp is taking is slowly with Nunez and whilst many are jumping on the striker and already claiming him to be a flop, Liverpool will hope for long-term benefits.

Much of the noise surrounding Nunez right now is pretty negative.

That’s the way of modern football; if you have even one bad game, the criticism mounts.

Just look at Erling Haaland after his Community Shield misfires. All his doubters after that game now look very foolish.

In the case of Nunez, has only managed one Premier League goal so far and picked up a ridiculous red card against Crystal Palace.

We’re not going to pretend that Nunez has been living up to his billing, but many are forgetting the rise he is adjusting to at Liverpool.

Nunez played just 22 games in the Penarol first team before joining Almeria in 2019.

Benfica took a chance on Nunez and were rewarded with 48 goals in 87 games, but the fact remains that Nunez was playing in Spain’s second tier just over two years ago.

Now expected to replace Sadio Mane at Liverpool, it’s a lot of expectation for a player who seems like he is always adjusting.

First it was adjusting to first-team action at Penarol in his teenage years. By the time he had settled into life in Spain, he was whisked off to Portugal.

Nunez needs time, more so than Haaland, who he seems to be compared to regularly.

Some players take these rapid ascents in their stride and others need some more adjustment; Nunez fits into the latter category, as seen by just six league goals in his first season at Benfica.

Liverpool have bought a project in Nunez and Jurgen Klopp knows it. The Reds just have to hope that Nunez doesn’t have his confidence drained by those who can’t wait for him to fail.
