Alan Shearer has praised Darwin Nunez whilst predicting that the striker will score plenty of goals for a long time at Liverpool.

Liverpool hosted Southampton on Saturday afternoon with Jurgen Klopp looking to pick up another big win.

Roberto Firmino’s header put Liverpool in front, only for Che Adams to head Southampton level almost immediately.

Nunez took over though as he put Liverpool back in front from a lovely Harvey Elliott cross.

Nunez added his second and Liverpool’s third, slotting past Gavin Bazunu as Andrew Robertson picked him out.

Alan Shearer has praised Darwin Nunez

For all the mocking in the early weeks of the season, Nunez is undoubtedly making an impact for Liverpool.

The 23-year-old has now scored seven times in his last 10 games for Liverpool across Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup.

It isn’t always pretty with Nunez and Klopp himself would probably admit that Liverpool’s big-money summer signing is a little raw.

There is plenty to be done in terms of Nunez’s technical ability but he just seems to cause chaos in the final third.

Nunez is a willing runner, he’s big, he’s strong and he’s very fast, posing a major threat to any defender.

Southampton found that out for themselves on Saturday and Nunez secured his first Premier League brace as a Liverpool player.

Nunez appears to be building confidence and he has now earned praise from the greatest goalscorer in Premier League history.

Alan Shearer spoke about Nunez on Match of the Day and believes the Uruguayan was a ‘constant threat’ against Southampton.

Shearer then predicted that Nunez will be a Liverpool regular for a long time and backed him to score lots of goals for the Reds.

“He was a constant threat,” said Shearer. “He’ll be around for a while and score lots of goals, I have no doubt about that,” he added.

Nunez may never quite hit Shearer’s goalscoring record in the Premier League but the Newcastle United legend clearly sees great things from the Liverpool striker.
