Liverpool should challenge Tottenham Hotspur for the Bournemouth ace.

According to a report from the Sun, Tottenham are lining up a £40 million summer bid for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, but Liverpool should be challenging their Champions League final opponents for the Dutchman’s signature.

The 24-year-old joined the Cherries from Chelsea in the summer of 2017 for around £20 million according to BBC Sport, and he has since gone on to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s finest central defenders.

And Ake has all the attributes needed to be a success at Liverpool.

The Reds currently have Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren as centre-back options.

Gomez has had his problems with injuries, however, whilst Lovren is far too inconsistent, so Liverpool should consider moving the Croatian on this summer, and bring in Ake in his place.

The Bournemouth ace can also fill in at full-back, as well as in the deep-lying central midfield position, so he would be a really versatile, top quality addition to Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Ake possesses pace in abundance, is strong in the air, and would slot perfectly into Klopp’s high-octane setup at Anfield.

And for the reported fee of £40 million, he could end up being a real coup for Liverpool, if they manage to beat Tottenham in the race for the centre-back’s signature.
