Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka was linked with a stunning transfer to Liverpool this past summer.

Okay so it wasn’t something that commanded column inches every single day, but there were rumours.

Back in June, the Daily Mail reported that Liverpool were genuinely interested in the Arsenal sensation, who earns £30,000 per week in North London.

By his own standards, Saka has endured quite a tepid start to the 2022-23 campaign, even if the Gunners – who are top of the Premier League standings – as a whole are absolutely flying.

With outfits like Liverpool rumoured to be interested, and the England international having less than two years on his existing deal, Arsenal need to extend his contract as soon as possible.

And according to journalist Dean Jones, there are some inside the Emirates Stadium club’s hierarchy who believe that the Anfield team could ‘pounce’ if they feel the Gunners are vulnerable to losing him.

He told Give Me Sport: “There’s also been in the back of their mind that if this guy becomes even slightly available, Manchester City or Liverpool could pounce; that’s been a worry.

“But I think Saka is fine, I think he’s happy, and I think that he wants to be a big part of the future.”

Jones might’ve added that Saka is happy and although that’s probably true at the moment, he’ll be champing at the bit for Champions League football.

This is a 21-year-old who’s more than talented enough to play in this competition and if Mikel Arteta’s side finish outside the top four again this season, after largely blowing it last time around, then keeping him could be very difficult indeed.

And with Liverpool having a love affair with this competition, well it would be difficult to blame the Hale End sensation for being tempted by Jurgen Klopp’s project on Merseyside, if they were sincerely interested.
