Liverpool didn’t really need Ozan Kabak when they were first linked with him back in the summer.
But they probably do now.
Jurgen Klopp has watched his centre-back options crumble in a big way over the past couple of months.
First Virgil van Dijk was ruled out for the season with a knee injury, and then Joe Gomez, while on England duty, picked up a similar problem which has him sidelined for the foreseeable future.
It’s a big problem for Liverpool because both of them were major factors behind their Premier League success of last term.
The good news is that we’re less than a month away from the January window, so Klopp, if he wants, has the chance to bolster his central-defensive options.
And there’s more good news because 20-year-old Schalke powerhouse Kabak is now reportedly much cheaper than he was back in the summer.
According to SportBILD in July, the Bundesliga outfit were looking for £31 million, but Calciomercato reported on Wednesday that financial issues have caused the Germans to lower their valuation to £18 million [€20 million].
A drop of £13 million is pretty substantial when you think about it and if Liverpool were genuinely interested back in July, there’s no reason why this wouldn’t interest them even more.
