Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool missed out on the signing of Moises Caicedo to Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, and now it seems that the Reds could fail to sign his Ecuador international teammate Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen as well.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Bayer Leverkusen central defender Piero Hincapie in the summer transfer window.
Bild journalist Christian Falk has written in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that Liverpool are trying to sign Hincapie.
Falk has claimed that Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is in talks with Bayer over a deal for the 23-year-old central defender, who has been described as “tenacious” and “versatile” and compared to Paris Saint-Germain star Lucas Hernandez on Bundesliga’s official website.
Liverpool could miss out on Piero Hincapie
However, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter, Bayer do not want to sell Hincapie to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Bayer head coach Xavi Alonso considers the 23-year-old a key player in his team.
The Bundesliga club have made it clear that Hincapie is not for sale in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to Plettenberg.
And this will come as a bitter blow for Liverpool, especially after they failed to sign Hincapie’s Ecuador international teammate Moises Caicedo before he left for Chelsea from Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this month.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool had reached an agreement with Brighton over a £111 million deal for Caicedo.
However, the Ecuador international midfielder wanted to move to Chelsea, and in the end, he got his wish.
Caicedo and Hincapie play together for the Ecuador national football team, and it seems that Liverpool will now fail in their quest to sign another Ecuadorian player this summer.
