It’s no secret that Liverpool are in the market for some fresh midfield talent this summer, and two players who have been linked with the Reds are Mason Mount and Declan Rice.
According to The Guardian, Liverpool are lining up a move for Mount, while Simon Phillips recently touted the Reds for a move for Rice.
In an ideal world, Liverpool would sign both of these midfielders as they look to reshape that area of their squad, and there’s reason to believe they could do just that. Indeed, in our view, signing Mount could actually give Liverpool the edge in the race for Rice.
It’s well documented that Mount and Rice are the best of friends, with a bond that goes back to their time in the Chelsea academy. They continue to be friends in the England squad, and they’re often pictured on holiday together at the end of each season.
Despite not playing together at club level, Mount and Rice have one of the strongest bromances in football.
This is where Liverpool end up having an edge.

If the Reds were to sign Mount, there’s a chance that Rice could be swayed to follow suit. The two players are remarkably close and it’s not hard to imagine that Rice would want to play alongside his best friend at club level.
By signing Mount, Liverpool could potentially open the door to signing Rice too.
Of course, Rice has other options on the table such as Arsenal and Chelsea, but if Mount is persuaded to head to Anfield, perhaps Rice will be too.
Regardless of whether or not Mount could persuade Rice, it would certainly boost Liverpool’s chances slightly.
Of course, this is all speculation at this point, Mount currently plays for Chelsea, and his presence at Stamford Bridge could well give them the edge, but it’s certainly food for thought as his contract talks stall and Liverpool line up their move.
Liverpool are in need of reinforcements in the midfield, and signing both Mount and Rice would be a huge statement of intent. The pair would bring a wealth of talent and experience to Anfield, and they would also bring a cohesive, almost telepathic understanding in the middle of the park.
Whether or not this scenario will play out remains to be seen, but it’s certainly an interesting prospect and something to potentially keep in mind.
