Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are both teams credited with interest in German international Max Meyer, with ESPN reporting the two Premier League sides hold interest in the winger.

Meyer’s contract at Schalke runs out next summer and while his new Schalke boss may convince him to stay on, they are currently in a weak position.

The Sun this week reported Tottenham are most likely to commit to a move this summer, reporting Meyer is valued at £30 million, although this price is likely to be reduced by his contract situation.

Now with Liverpool signing Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, the Reds are likely to give Tottenham a free run at the winger.

While the 21-year-old is highly rated, he is coming off a very poor season in which he scored only once and provided one assist.

Liverpool will not have any room for him to grow into the team, with Salah signed off the back of a stunning 15 goal season at Roma, and Sadio Mane’s crucial role in the team is already well established.

With key attacking players Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Coutinho all demanding key roles too, there simply isn’t space to bring Meyer in and promise him the regular football he needs.

At Tottenham it is different, with Erik Lamela a long term injury absentee, and wingers Clinton N’Jie and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou failing to grab their chances.

There is some debate whether Spurs need a more proven player than Meyer at this stage if they are to kick on, but he certainly fits their recent transfer profile – Moussa Sissoko aside.

It would be a surprise if Liverpool now put up much of a fight against Tottenham’s pursuit of the winger.
