Pepe Reina has been linked with a shock transfer to his former club Liverpool, TalkSport report.
On the face of it Liverpool may have no need for Reina, with Loris Karius just signed from Mainz – but that is exactly why they need him.
If Karius really is the man Klopp wants between the sticks, then selling Simon Mignolet is best for the new signing, and fairest to the Belgian.

A battle between the two will not be in either’s best interest long term, and Mignolet should be cut loose to pursue his options elsewhere.
Reina would provide quality back-up which Liverpool desperately lacked last season, exposed by Adam Bogdan when he played.

He would also be an experienced hand for Karius to take advice from, and having done so at international level for years, and previously at Bayern Munich, Reina understands and is familiar with the role of understudy.
Reina made clear he never wanted to leave Liverpool in the first place when Brendan Rodgers moved him on, and would find it difficult to turn down the club’s interest.

Even through their midweek matches in the Europa League this season, Reina could be found cheering them on via social media.
He turns 34 in August, and snapping him up and selling Mignolet would add clarity to a goalkeeping situation which has lacked it over the past 12 months.
