According to A Bola, Liverpool are interested in signing Otavio from Porto this summer in a bid to bolster their midfield.
Liverpool have cultivated something of a strong link to Porto in recent years. They let Marko Grujic leave to the Portuguese giants last summer, while, perhaps more notably, they signed Luis Diaz in January.
Diaz and Otavio were long-time teammates at Porto, and it’s fair to say that they got on well together.
The pair played a staggering 101 matches alongside one another, and in those games they won 73 times, meanwhile, they only lost 16 of those matches, so as you can see, this is a pairing that works very well together.
Of course, you would expect a team like Porto to have an impressive win percentage at all times, but last season, their win ratio was lower than the 72.2% they’ve had when Diaz and Otavio play together.

Interestingly, Otavio actually assisted Diaz five times during their time together at Porto, and while that doesn’t sound like much, it’s fair to say that they cultivated some sort of understanding together.
Diaz has hit the ground running at Anfield, and there’s reason to believe that Otavio could do the same. After all, he’s shining in the same league and the same team that Diaz was a star in.
The Reds’ scouts would certainly have seen Otavio while they were scouting Diaz, and it seems as though they were rather impressed by the Brazilian.
Liverpool fans may be excited by the prospect of Otavio arriving, but there may not be a man on Merseyside more buzzing by this prospect than Diaz.
