Liverpool are considering a move for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips as a replacement for Fabinho.

Kalvin Phillips is on the radar for Liverpool as they seek to bring in somebody to replace Fabinho.

That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Phillips is ‘under consideration’ as the Reds plot another midfield move.

Fabinho is now set for a shock Liverpool departure with Al Ittihad offering a £40million move.

The Brazilian has been left out of Liverpool’s training camp in Germany as a move to Saudi Arabia draws closer and closer.

Liverpool must now look for options in holding midfield and Phillips is thought to be one of them.

Whether Manchester City would sell to Liverpool is unclear but Phillips is on the Anfield wish list after a tricky first season at City.

Kalvin Phillips may be tempted by Liverpool

Phillips was outstanding for Leeds United, being described as ‘exceptional’ by pundit Danny Higginbotham, and secured himself a big £45million move to City last summer.

The switch didn’t quite work out last season as Phillips found himself stuck behind Rodri in City’s midfield pecking order.

Phillips ended up starting just two Premier League games for City and his future has been brought into question.

The Telegraph reported in June that Phillips was dodging Newcastle interest as he wants to stay and prove himself under Pep Guardiola.

Whilst Newcastle do have Champions League football, Liverpool are a different animal and may seriously appeal.

The Reds are a huge name and should bounce back this season after a rather disappointing campaign.

Fabinho’s exit would clear the path for Phillips to play regularly and the Reds may be the kind of offer which tempts the England international into changing his stance.

Liverpool surely weren’t expecting this many midfield changes

We knew there would be a midfield overhaul at Liverpool this summer.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, James Milner and Arthur Melo all moved on whilst Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have come in.

Yet now we’re seeing two more Liverpool midfielders head for the exit with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson seemingly heading for Saudi Arabia.

Losing Milner, Fabinho and Henderson in one summer would be unbelievable in terms of the leadership and experience moving on.

Liverpool may have wanted one more midfielder this time last week but may now need two or even three in order to rebuild their ranks.

This wasn’t in the plan for Jurgen Klopp and co, who are left to try and find somebody to replace Fabinho’s impact in front of the defence.
