Liverpool confirm signing of Ben Winterbottom

The youngster has joined Liverpool from Blackburn Rovers.

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of 17-year-old goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom today via their official club website.

Winterbottom began his youth career with Blackburn Rovers, and he made 24 appearances for the Lancashire outfit’s under-23 side.

The Reds have obviously brought the teenager to the club with one eye on the future, and he will certainly be behind Alisson Becker and Simon Mignolet in the goalkeeping pecking order at Anfield.

He stands at 6ft 2in tall, according to Soccerwiki, and he is highly regarded within the game.

Although the report doesn’t state that Liverpool have had to pay any kind of fee for Winterbottom, a tribunal might be owed to Blackburn.

The report from Liverpool’s official website claims that the Merseyside outfit were persuaded into signing the goalkeeper after he put in a succession of fine performances when playing against them for Rovers’ youth team.

Whether he will go on to become a regular for Liverpool in years to come, however, remains to be seen.
