PSV Eindhoven are expecting to lose Cody Gakpo in January and are open to discussing a deal with any club amid links to Liverpool.

Gakpo went into the World Cup being touted as a star of the future after shining for PSV in the first half of the season.

13 goals and 17 assists in just 24 games for PSV across all competitions this season is a frankly ridiculous record.

Gakpo took that form to Qatar too, finding the net in all three of the Netherlands’ group stage games against Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar.

All of this just increases the chances of Gakpo leaving PSV in January and 90Min claim that the Dutch side are now expecting him to go.

There may have been some hope before the World Cup of keeping Gakpo until the summer, but that appears to be over.

Manchester United don’t have a deal done and PSV are willing to talk to any possible suitor here, which could give some hope to Liverpool.

Liverpool have a window to sign Cody Gakpo

Voetbal International reporter Marco Timmer claimed in November that Liverpool are planning talks to sign Gakpo.

Dutch pundit Hans Kraay Jr even claimed that Liverpool coach Pep Lijnders personally told him that Gakpo is the ‘missing link’ that Liverpool are seeking in attack.

Gakpo also name-checked Liverpool whilst naming the major clubs in Europe that he would like to play for once he leaves PSV.

The Liverpook-Gakpo links have been building and Luis Diaz’s injury setback is notable here.

The Colombian winger faces three months on the sidelines after suffering another injury in training just a few days ago.

Liverpool may now look for somebody who can play on the left flank and up top, with Gakpo fitting the bill perfectly.

We would still make Manchester United favourites for Gakpo right now but don’t be surprised if Liverpool make a move of their own.
