Liverpool showed an interest in Arnaut Danjuma last year but the winger may now end up replacing Cody Gakpo at PSV Eindhoven.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that PSV have made an approach to sign Danjuma from Villarreal.

Premier League clubs are queueing up to sign Danjuma with Everton, Southampton, Aston Villa and Bournemouth all interested.

Yet Danjuma is now interested in joining PSV as he fancies playing under Ruud van Nistelrooy in Eindhoven.

Van Nistelrooy is understood to view the Dutch international winger as an ideal replacement for Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool pounced to sign Gakpo earlier this month – and it could have been Danjuma heading to Anfield once upon a time…

Liverpool wanted Arnaut Danjuma before Darwin Nunez deal

The Reds signed Luis Diaz in January of last year but they were still looking at potential attacking additions.

Liverpool ended up needing to make a signing as Sadio Mane ended up leaving to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

A number of players were linked with Liverpool between January and the summer with Danjuma one of them.

Danjuma claimed that Liverpool were watching him ahead of the summer transfer window having impressed with Villarreal.

Goal even reported back in April that Liverpool viewed Danjuma as the ideal replacement for Sadio Mane.

Liverpool signed Mane instead and Danjuma just hen’t been able to replicate last season’s form ever since.

Villarreal are now happy to let Danjuma leave and rather than a dream move to Anfield, he could be heading back to the Netherlands.

Gakpo did earn his move to Liverpool, and we could see a real twist of fate with Danjuma potentially heading to replace him this month.
