The rise and rise of Trent Alexander-Arnold has meant Nathaniel Clyne has become Liverpool and England’s forgotten man.

Once a regular for club and country, injury has also played it’s part in Clyne falling off the map.

He has recently been playing for Liverpool’s under-23s, in order to get up to full fitness and sharpness so he will be ready if he is required.

Clyne is so far generating positive reviews for his recent efforts.

Under-23 coach Neil Critchley had positive words for Clyne, speaking to Liverpool’s official website after a 3-0 win over Swansea City.

Nathaniel Clyne #2 of Liverpool fights for the ball with Jason Denayer #28 of Manchester City during their match at MetLife Stadium on July 25, 2018 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Critchley said: “Nathaniel played a couple of games last season for us and he was brilliant for us. His attitude is first-class and he is a great example to our young boys of what a professional is.

“He always goes about his business in a real quiet, efficient way and those players are worth their weight in gold to any manager.”

There will be a point this season when Clyne is needed by Jurgen Klopp, and that could be over the next month with the Reds facing a critical run of games.

The Reds will be loathe to change a winning side if they can help it, but young Alexander-Arnold will need a rest at some stage and Clyne is obviously making a good impression behind the scenes.
