Liverpool already have one top young right back in Trent Alexander-Arnold, but there is excitement building at Anfield that another one will develop over the coming years.

The Reds saw Alexander-Arnold score in the 3-0 win at Watford on Saturday afternoon, and just a day later, another young Liverpool right back showed his quality.

Liverpool’s Under-23’s took on their Everton counterparts at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, claiming 1-0 win as Rafa Camacho’s goal gave the Reds victory.

One of the main talking points coming out of the game was the performance of Dutch right back Ki-Jana Hoever, as the 16-year-old made his full Premier League 2 debut and turned in a superb display.

Hoever joined Liverpool from Ajax over the summer, and is already making strides despite his youth, and his performance on Sunday has now been hailed.

“Unbelievable. Sixteen. Wow,” Liverpool Under-23 boss Neil Critchley told the Liverpool Echo. “Considering he played in the week as well….. He tired towards the end which was understandable. But I thought his calmness and assurance, his decision-making, his intelligence without the ball, it was terrific. Playing against a good player, I was very impressed with him indeed.”

After the rise of Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool will hope that Hoever can enjoy the same meteoric rise and give Jurgen Klopp two talented young right backs to work with, especially with Nathaniel Clyne struggling to return to first-team football this season.
