Liverpool confirmed the signing of young goalkeeper Kyle McKenzie-Lyle last week, the Liverpool Echo reported.

McKenzie-Lyle impressed Anfield chiefs after a successful trial spell.

At the weekend he was in action, playing for the under-23s against Swansea City.

Playing in the same team as big names Dominic Solanke, Nathaniel Clyne and Divock Origi, the young goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory.

Liverpool under-23 coach Neil Critchley told the club website he was impressed by the 20-year-old prospect.

He said: “It was also a good debut for our new goalkeeper Kai. It’s nice to have him here, he really impressed in pre-season and I thought he was calm and assured.

“He made a good save in the opening half and it was great for him to keep a clean sheet.”

McKenzie-Lyle stands at six foot seven, making himself an imposing figure for opponents to try and score past.

While the 20-year-old faces a fierce challenge to ever displace Liverpool’s big money signing Alisson in goal, he is making a good early impression.

He was under contract to Barnet for the past four years, before going on trial at Liverpool earlier this summer.
