Are Liverpool finally set to get their man?

Jorginho of SSC Napoli line up before the UEFA Champions League group F match between SSC Napoli and Manchester City at Stadio San Paolo on November 1, 2017 in Naples, Italy.

Liverpool are confident of signing Napoli midfielder Jorginho, according to The Mirror.

The Reds reportedly fancy their chances of signing the defensive midfielder this summer ahead of their Premier League rivals.

He will cost in the region of £50 million, a fee a lot higher than the price Liverpool could have signed him for five years ago.

Jorginho is a long term target for Liverpool, having been on their radar when Brendan Rodgers was manager.

The Metro reported in 2013 that Jorginho was on Liverpool’s shortlist and was being eyed up as a successor to Steven Gerrard.

The Brazilian born Italy international was playing for Hellas Verona at the time, and was reportedly available at just £15 million.

Now the Reds must pay a £35 million mark up to get their man, but they will also be signing a more complete and developed player than the one who showed promise at Verona.

He signed for Napoli in January 2014 and has gone onto play more than 150 games for the Partenopei.

Liverpool fans will hope he is worth the wait, and the sizeable fee.

Brendan Rodgers might look back and wonder what could have been achieved if he had pushed to sign Jorginho in 2014.

Bolstering their midfield might just have avoided their late title bid collapse.
