Liverpool are set to win the battle to sign Celtic’s young wonderkid Ben Doak in a deal that will only see the Bhoys secure ‘minor compensation’.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Liverpool are now closing in on a deal to bring Doak down to Anfield.
Doak, 16, has yet to sign a professional deal at Celtic and that’s why Liverpool are able to swoop in and take him for a very low fee.
Celtic have been trying to convince Doak to stay put in Glasgow, but their efforts have proven fruitless with Doak now heading to Liverpool.
So what turned Doak’s head? It seems to be the sheer presence of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
It’s stated that the prospect of playing for Klopp was ‘pivotal’ in Doak’s decision to snub Celtic and sign for Liverpool.
Reports broke about Liverpool’s interest in Doak in December, and it now seems that their pursuit will pay dividends very soon.
Doak is a very exciting attacking midfielder who earned huge praise from Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, who recently branded Doak ‘fantastic’.
If Liverpool can then go and sign another teenage attacking midfielder in Fabio Carvalho, the Reds could have two enormous prospects for the years to come.
For Celtic, this is yet another enormous blow as they prepare to lose yet another talented prospect.
Liam Morrison and Barry Hepburn both left Celtic for Bayern Munich whilst Josh Adam quit the Bhoys for Manchester City in 2020.
Doak is now set to join that list and become another prospect to slip through the Celtic net, heading to Liverpool in a cut-price deal.
That price tag will be infuriating for Celtic, but unfortunately this is the result of being unable to get Doak down to a professional contract.
Liverpool will be rubbing their hands with glee, no doubt believing that they have secured a superb signing.
