Roy Keane on Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher
Keane said about Kelleher on ITV (11:19am, February 6, 2022), as transcribed by The Liverpool Echo: “Apparently when he was younger he started off as an outfield player possibly a striker. He obviously wasn’t very good because they pushed back.
“He’s done very well for himself. Martin [O’Neil] brought him into the senior squad when we were with Ireland and what you’d say about him is he has a fantastic temperament and that’s what you need to be a good goalkeeper particularly at the big clubs.
“He’s done very well, great with his feet, a real maturity about him when he came into the Irish squad when I was there with Martin – a real nice presence about him.
“He wasn’t giddy around the place, his training his attitude was spot on and it’s good to see him get some minutes for Liverpool.”

Bright future ahead
In our view, Kelleher has a bright future ahead of him for Liverpool and the Republic of Ireland national football team.
The 23-year-old has already played twice for the Republic of Ireland.
The youngster has made a handful of appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League and is now the second-choice goalkeeper behind Alisson.
Now, of course, we know that Alisson is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet and is word class.
The Brazil international is at the top of his game and will stay so for a number of years.
Kelleher is doing well and progressing nicely at Liverpool, and working with his Liverpool coaches and learning from Alisson in the coming years will help him.
Now, we see Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp use Kelleher in cup competitions, and the 23-year-old always responds with strong displays.
In our opinion, Kelleher is a gem, and he could be Alisson’s long-term successor at Liverpool.
