Liverpool can’t hold 20-year-old back much longer, despite Mignolet plan

Liverpool have a decision to make in goal this summer.

Liverpool talent Kamil Grabara has been in impressive form for Poland’s under-21 side over the past fortnight.

The promising 20-year-old has been gradually making a strong case for himself to become Alisson’s first team back up under Jurgen Klopp.

He impressed in pre-season last year and for the under-23s, before going out on loan to Denmark in January.

That’s why a report in The Times claiming Liverpool plan to keep back-up Simon Mignolet at the club this summer looks like a tough blow for Grabara.

It had been expected that Mignolet would move on for the sake of his career.

But if he is content as a back up for Alisson, then Grabara is a tough position.

He is too good to be wasted as a third choice, not even making the bench each week, and needs a bigger challenge than under-23 football.

Liverpool could send him out on loan for another year, perhaps to a Premier League or Championship team.

After that, it will become even more difficult for the Reds to hold him back.
