Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted to BT Sport that Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho’s substitutions at half-time made the game very unpredictable last night.

With Tottenham 1-0 down at the break, Mourinho opted to hook Serge Aurier and also took the injured Harry Kane off.

Erik Lamela and Harry Winks both came onto the field for Spurs, but neither of the changes had the desired impact.

Right from the off Liverpool were on top, and within two minutes Trent Alexander-Arnold had doubled the Reds’ lead.

It was an impressive opening to the second period from Klopp, but even the Liverpool boss admitted that he didn’t know how the game would pan out after Mourinho’s changes.

“You cannot really be sure that something like this will happen in the second half again because they made two changes, so you never know exactly the way,” Klopp said.

“Offensively I thought we coped with their formation, played around and inbetween, we were so often in and around the box and our counter press was good.

“I didn’t see it coming but it was not negative, the second half.”

Tottenham tried to play more in the front foot in the second period, but they were unable to do so.

Spurs, instead, just seemed to open up their defence as they chased goals, and they couldn’t find a way to break down the Reds makeshift backline.

The defeat leaves Tottenham in sixth place in the Premier League table, while Liverpool have climbed back up to fourth.
