Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted to BeIN Sports that his team faced a good practice match ahead of their game against Tottenham Hotspur, as they saw the threat that opposition teams can cause on the counter-attack.
Tottenham are due to take on Liverpool on Thursday, and Klopp’s side have rarely looked so vulnerable in recent years.
The Reds were much improved in an attacking sense against Manchester United yesterday, but they left gaps at the back.
United ended up winning 3-2, and Klopp says that his Liverpool side need to be more disciplined going forward otherwise Tottenham could hurt them in a similar fashion.
He said: “It was a good test tonight for our next opponent, we play Tottenham. They are not too bad at counter attacking as well! We should do that better.”
If Liverpool do leave gaps at the back then Mourinho’s men will surely feel relatively confident of getting a result.
Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son have been hugely effective on the counter this season, with the pair linking up absolutely brilliantly.
Tottenham did hurt Liverpool on occasion when the two sides met earlier in the season at Anfield, but their best chances fell to Steven Bergwijn, who fluffed his lines.
On that occasion Liverpool ran out 2-1 winners, but the Reds’ form has taken a turn for the worse since that day, and Klopp’s side have now been victories in just one of their last seven games.
