Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp says that Nathaniel Clyne has no “football rhythm” at the moment.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Jurgen Klopp has stated that Nathaniel Clyne is in contention to start tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Manchester City, but suggested that he won’t.

Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side in the Premier League travel to Anfield for the first leg of a quarter-final encounter.

With a player like Leroy Sane at their disposal, Liverpool’s right-back position is a topic of particular intrigue at the moment.

Joe Gomez has been ruled out through injury, meaning that 19-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold and fit-again Clyne are the only two options for Klopp.

Nathaniel Clyne of Liverpool arrives prior to kickoff during the Premier League match between Watford and Liverpool at Vicarage Road on May 1, 2017 in Watford, England.

But Clyne hasn’t kicked a ball for Liverpool this season, having only recently recovered from a back injury, and the German manager hinted that he will punt for Alexander-Arnold as a result.

He told the Reds’ official website, when asked if the former Southampton star was in contention to start: “Of course.

“The only problem we have is that Clyney has been a long time without football; he had games with the U23s but not all week or whatever, it was in the last one or two months.

“Physically, he is fit – but he has no football rhythm, to be honest.”

It could potentially be a very long 90 minutes for Alexander-Arnold if Sane plays to his full potential. On his day, the German winger is unplayable for even the best right-backs around, let alone one with only five Champions League and 21 Premier League games under his belt.
