Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp raved about the quality in his squad on Monday, but fans aren’t buying it.

Manager Jurgen Klopp speaks to the media during the Liverpool FC Press Conference at Anfield on August 22, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool’s official website that he has never known the level of strength in depth that he currently boasts with the Reds.

Klopp could not fit centre-back Ragnar Klavan or young summer signing Dominic Solanke into his matchday squad for last week’s 5-0 demolition of Porto in the Champions League.

In addition to that, Emre Can, who has started 20 Premier League games this season, was unavailable due to suspension but Liverpool didn’t miss him in the slightest.

And the German manager, who had seven years at Borussia Dortmund prior to turning up to Anfield in 2015, believes that he has never boasted more of an abundance of quality.

He told Liverpool’s website: “It’s really hard in the moment to make the squad.

“Wow, I’ve never had a situation like that with the quality of the players not being in the squad.

“They all have made really big steps. Dom Solanke was not in the squad but is in outstanding shape at the moment. Ragnar Klavan , unbelievable. Ben Woodburn makes steps and is really close to everything.”

But the comments haven’t gone down particularly well with fans of the Merseyside club, many of whom took to Twitter to express their surprise over what Klopp has said.

They might be right.

Danny Ings and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were the closest things that Klopp had to game-changers on the bench in Porto, but Ings has had a rotten two-and-a-half year stint at Liverpool due to injury, while the former Arsenal man has gone off the boil in a big way since his performance against Manchester City in January.

Ings and Oxlade-Chamberlain are good players, but you wonder if they would’ve had a huge impact if Klopp’s side were in dire need of a bit of inspiration on the night.
