Jurgen Klopp wrote in Liverpool’s official matchday programme about Anfield’s atmosphere and how it will be important for the youngsters who could make their debut against Arsenal.

Liverpool secured a good victory against MK Dons in the previous round of the League Cup thanks to goals from veteran James Milner and 17-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever. The teenager was joined by a number of other youth team players and a good number of them are expected to feature again against Arsenal tonight.

Jurgen Klopp stressed on the importance of youth in football clubs and claimed that Liverpool are providing them with the right environment to develop. The Liverpool boss also hailed the atmosphere at Anfield and urged the crowd to do two things to help the youngsters.

He said: “It is the job of all us to help them and nurture them and give them an environment to grow, develop and flourish. I am confident we are doing this.

“And on that theme, again on the assumption there are some Anfield debuts for our young players this evening, it is critical that the atmosphere is one that encourages and inspires. I know our crowd will get this – they are world-class when it comes to recognising their job also.”

Anfield has well and truly become a fortress for Liverpool. The Reds haven’t lost at home since September 2018 and a lot of it has been down to the home support. Their opponents tonight, Arsenal, haven’t quite had the same support at the Emirates in recent times.

Granit Xhaka was the latest player to face the wrath of Arsenal fans after his antics on Sunday. A situation such as that is unlikely to ever happen at Anfield and Klopp calling his fans world-class three days after the incident in North London could well have been a small dig at Arsenal fans whose behaviour has been questionable recently.
