Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told Monday’s press conference – as per the club’s YouTube – that Tottenham are “flying” despite their defeat to Brighton on Saturday. Spurs still remain favourites to secure fourth place.
Going into Saturday, Spurs were three points clear of struggling Arsenal and were expected to see off the challenge of struggling Brighton – despite Graham Potter watching his side beat the Gunners 2-1 the weekend prior.
However, Brighton held firm to beat Spurs 1-0. Luckily for Tottenham, Arsenal’s poor run of form has continued – losing 1-0 away to Southampton. Manchester United won; West Ham only mustered a draw with Burnley.
Speaking about Tottenham in his most-recent press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s clash against Manchester United, Klopp was full of praise. He says Antonio Conte has got his side “flying”, using the word “incredible”.
“To be fourth means you are a quality side. With all the opponents you have it’s mad how consistent you have to be to get close to that area. Tottenham are flying, they had a little drop, but the quality they have is incredible.”
Klopp on Tottenham: Can Spurs still achieve fourth spot this season?
The plus in Tottenham’s favour is the run in. Tottenham do face Liverpool at Anfield, and Arsenal at home – games they could still get something from – but they also face Brentford, Leicester, Burnley and Norwich.
So, yes, Spurs can still get fourth and they are in the driving seat. Next up is a trip to Christian Eriksen’s Brentford and they should get back to winning ways – though Brentford are in good form, recently beating Chelsea 4-1.
