Benfica sporting director Rui Pedro Braz has reportedly travelled to Denmark in order to discuss a move for Schjelderup.
The Norwegian talent is highly rated and raking in huge money for Fernandez would certainly give Benfica the cash to go and sign Schjelderup and more.
Schjelderup, 18, has been outstanding in Denmark’s top flight this season, bagging 10 goals in 17 games for Nordsjaelland.
The winger had trials at Liverpool and Tottenham during his time at Bodo/Glimt but ended up joining Nordsjaelland instead.
Schjelderup even claims that he rejected a deal with Liverpool and that decision really hurt at the time.
A winger likened to Jack Grealish, Schjelderup is expected to be a star of the future and Benfica want to make sure that future is in Portugal.
Liverpool are still keeping tabs on Schjelderup but if they sign Fernandez and miss out on the teenager, they will probably still feel pretty happy.
