Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are interested in signing Denis Zakaria, but the Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder fancies a move to Xavi’s Barcelona, according to La Gazetta dello Sport (print edition, page 20, November 14, 2021).
What’s the story?
The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Liverpool are showing interest in Zakaria.
Italian giants Juventus are also keen on the Switzerland international defensive midfielder.
However, the 24-year-old fancies a move to Barcelona, who have recently appointed Xavi as their new manager.
The former Young Boys star is open to a move to the Premier League as well, according to the report.
Would Denis Zakaria make Liverpool better?
In our view, yes, Zakaria would take Liverpool a better and stronger team in the middle of the park.
Now, of course, we know that Liverpool are a brilliant team.
The likes of Thiago, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are brilliant midfielders, and Curtis Jones is very promising.

Klopp was also playing winger Harvey Elliott in midfield before he got injured.
However, we think that Zakaria would make Liverpool better.
And remember he is only 24, which means that the midfielder can only get better.
Granit Xhaka’s Switzerland international teammate is one of the better defensive midfielders in the Bundesliga.
And he is rated very highly.
Former BSC Young Boys coach Uli Forte told Mondo Napoli in July 2021: “He is an incredible box-to-box [player]. He has exceptional technique and grinds kilometres.
“All his characteristics were appreciated from a very young age, and he made his debut at the age of 18. He has offers from England, he has the right characteristics for the Premier.
“He will become a devastating player. Zakaria is a champion and has characteristics more or less similar to [Napoli midfielder Diego] Demme. Quantity, but a lot of quality.”
