Stevie Nicol has backed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton by claiming that ‘any proper team’ would want to sign the sought-after midfielder.
There is every chance that Fabinho and Jordan Henderson leave Liverpool this summer, amid interest from Saudi Arabia, and if those deals go through, then it means that the Reds will have to fish the market for another midfield player.
Following the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister, Anfield legend Nicol thinks it’s a ‘no brainer’ to bring his partner in crime to Merseyside, as he told ESPN.
Whilst only £35 million was paid for Mac Allister’s talents, because of the release clause in his contract, it’s fair to say that Moises Caicedo won’t go for that amount.
Declan Rice recently joined Arsenal for a £105 million fee, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if those at the Amex Stadium view their player in the same bracket.
That’s why Nicol thinks Caicedo will have a £100 million target on his head and how he ‘absolutely’ wants him in Liverpool colours next season.

“100%, absolutely, yes (I like it),” said Nicol. “It seems unlikely that if Henderson doesn’t go and Fabinho stays as well that Liverpool are going to turn around and spend the kind of money that Brighton want, which is close to £100 million. I don’t think that is the plan.
“At the same time, if they bring in anything close to that for those two players, then 100% that is the way to go. I don’t think there is a Liverpool fan who would say against it.
“I mean Caicedo is on the list of any proper football team that wants a fantastic midfield player. If he goes to Liverpool, then I would be absolutely delighted.
“It’s an absolute ideal situation. Mac Allister and Caicedo, who were part of one of the best midfields in world football playing together. Do you think that they aren’t going to know each other? It’s a complete and utter no-brainer.”

Big changes at Liverpool
After the troubles of last season, which saw Liverpool finish outside of the top four, it was obvious to all that changes were needed in the middle of the park.
Klopp’s team had lost that bite, aggression, energy and power in midfield. Well, if they are able to bring in Caicedo this summer, alongside Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, then a new chapter is going to be written.
Liverpool have won it all under their German coach, but this is his biggest test now because he hasn’t been knocked down like he was during the past 12 months.
