Liverpool have strong ties to Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James – and Reds target Aurelien Tchouameni is nicknamed after him.

We know LeBron didn’t exactly cover himself with glory when speaking about ‘soccer’ on Crouchy’s Year-Late Euros in July.

LeBron seemed to have a tenuous grasp on how international football works, somewhat embarrassing himself to Liverpool fans in the process.

James has been a part-owner of Liverpool for more than 10 years now, and claims to support the Reds.

As one of the most recognisable sports stars in the world, even LeBron’s name itself carries huge weight.

It’s therefore quite something that Liverpool target Tchouameni has been likened to him.

The Athletic claim that Monaco teammates call Tchouameni ‘Young King’ in reference to his sporting hero James.

For the uninitiated, LeBron is known as ‘King James’ in NBA circles.

That comparison is incredibly lofty given that LeBron rivals Michael Jordan in the conversation for greatest NBA player ever, and Tchouameni, as great as he is, is unlikely to reach that kind of level in football.

Yet this does show that teammates are seeing something special in Tchouameni, just as Liverpool do.

Tuttojuve claim that Liverpool have already started talks with Monaco to try and sign Tchouameni in 2022.

Given LeBron’s status at Liverpool, the Reds could use him as a real pull to try and get Tchouameni in, with the midfielder seemingly loving the Lakers star.

That wouldn’t be bad at all for somebody whose football knowledge has been heavily questioned.
