Pep Lijnders has delivered a serious blow to Liverpool’s season as he provided an update on the fitness of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have propelled themselves right back into the title race this campaign after a dismal season last year saw the Reds finish outside of the Champions League spaces.

Despite this, the Reds improved significantly in the midfield department, in particular. Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were two of the key men in the engine department who departed Anfield.

In came Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich and it seems these signings have worked as Liverpool are back in the title race.

Salah injury

One man who has remained at Anfield throughout the ups and downs is Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, who has scored 204 goals and provided 88 assists for the Reds since moving to the club from AS Roma in the summer of 2017.

However, during his time away with his national team for the African Cup Of Nations, the 31-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury for his side and now looks likely to miss the remaining games of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s game against Fulham in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, the Dutchman has revealed the extent of the winger’s injury problem.

As quoted by the BBC, Lijnders said: “It’s expected [he will] return in three to four weeks if everything goes smooth.”

“It will go smooth and it will go right because of how we’ve treated his body before.”

As well as this, the BBC claim that Liverpool have sent Salah back to the club for ‘intensive rehabilitation’.

Salah blow

Losing the experienced forward is a huge blow for Liverpool but if their win over Bournemouth on Sunday demonstrated anything, it showed that they can do well without the forward.

Salah has netted 18 times for the Reds this campaign with nine assists and there is no question of the Egyptian’s importance to the side.

Their other forwards, namely Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have to step up for the next month if the Merseyside club are to remain in the title race this season.
