Liverpool are seemingly on the brink of signing a young goalkeeper.

UOL Esporte in Brazil reported earlier this week that the Reds had agreed a fee with Fluminense to sign 17-year-old Marcelo Pitaluga, who will cost a total of £1.8 million.

Globo added on Friday that a move to Liverpool is ‘imminent’ and Fluminense will have a 25 percent sell-on clause.

Kostas Tsimikas is the only other player that Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards signed this summer, ahead of the defence of their Premier League title.

Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted on Twitter to potentially welcoming Pitaluga – who has a German passport and can therefore join immediately – to Melwood.

It might be a while yet before Pitaluga is even considered for competitive games, but what a mentor he has.

Alisson, who is also Brazilian, is one of the world’s finest goalkeepers and any time that Pitaluga gets to spend alongside his compatriot on the training ground could be invaluable to the teen.

If this goes through, it’s another indication that Klopp and Edwards are building an exciting project, after signing two other bright teenagers in the form of Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott last summer.
