Tim Sherwood has suggested that this is Tottenham Hotspur’s best chance of securing a top-four finish because he thinks a team like Liverpool are ‘out of it’.

After beating second-placed Manchester City on Sunday, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham are now sitting fifth in the table on 39 points, one point behind fourth-placed Newcastle United and a further three behind Manchester United – the duo have played a game less.

But those at Hotspur Way were here last season, just months into Conte’s reign.

Back then they were chasing Arsenal and they did a pretty good job of it. Usually, they are called ‘Spursy’, but it was far from it then.

Whilst there has been a mixed response to what Spurs have been doing this season, they are on the tail of those above them.

And Sherwood thinks there is only one team that they have to look over their shoulders at, as he told Premier League Productions (05/02/23 at 7:20 pm).

“If I am Tottenham and I want to get into the top four,” said Sherwood. “Then I am looking over my shoulder at one team.

“Liverpool are out of it. There is something not right there. Chelsea are only going to get better with the world-class players they have signed.”

WHAT IF…

There is still every chance that Spurs don’t finish in the top four, and if that happens, then it could be very problematic.

A certain duo – Harry Kane and Antonio Conte – are yet to sign new deals.

It has to be questioned why they would sign on the dotted line if Champions League football isn’t played at Spurs next season, especially someone like Kane, who will have 12 months left to run on his current deal in the summer.
