Liverpool were interested in West Bromwich Albion defender
Liverpool solved their defensive crisis earlier by signing Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, but there are still questions left to be asked.
Who will partner Van Dijk long-term is the big one, and a less splashy one is whether Ragnar Klavan has a future at the club.
The Estonian is utilised as a back-up, and helped keep a clean sheet against Everton at the weekend.
But it would make sense to try and upgrade the 32-year-old, and Liverpool will have an opportunity to do so by moving for West Brom’s Ahmed Hegazi this summer.
Hegazi made an immediate impact for the Baggies after signing last summer, and ESPN reported in November that Liverpool were weighing up a move.
West Brom’s impending relegation makes it difficult for the club to hold onto him, providing Liverpool with an opportunity to get their man.
The Reds’ having Hegazi’s Egyptian teammate Mohamed Salah gives them an advantage too, and signing the defender may even help keep their goalscoring winger sweet.
The 27-year-old will have to prove himself if he is going to be worthy of a regular starting spot at Liverpool, but as a squad player, he could be a worthy addition.
