Liverpool wanted Andreas Schjelderup but the Norwegian talent has snubbed the Reds in favour joining Benfica instead.

That’s according to TV2 in Norway, who claim that Liverpool and Brentford have both made proposals to Schjelderup’s representatives.

However, Schjelderup believes that Benfica is the best place for him and is rejecting the two Premier League clubs.

Nordsjaelland talent Schjelderup thinks that he can play a key role for Benfica in the coming years, something he seemingly doesn’t think will happen with Liverpool.

The 18-year-old is putting himself and his development first, which is refreshing to see from a young player.

It’s stated that Benfica will be paying NOK 150 million for Schjelderup, which works out to around £12.5million.

That makes Schjelderup the second most expensive Norwegian talent of all time, behind only Erling Haaland.

A five-and-a-half-year deal is waiting for Schjelderup at Benfica and it looks like Liverpool are missing out – again.

Andreas Schjelderup has rejected Liverpool in the past

Liverpool have held a long-standing interest in Schjelderup but may be starting to think he may never arrive at Anfield.

The winger had trials at Liverpool and Tottenham during his time at Bodo/Glimt but chose to join Nordsjaelland instead, again putting his development first.

Schjelderup even claims that he rejected a deal with Liverpool and that decision really hurt at the time, but he had to focus on playing first-team football.

Compared to Jack Grealish, Schjelderup looks to be a huge talent and has smashed 10 goals and one assist in 17 games for Nordsjaelland this season.

Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet reported that Liverpool were scouting Nordsjaelland against Midtjylland, with Schjelderup seemingly the reason for their trip.

The teenager winger is now rejecting a move to Anfield once again though, meaning Liverpool will have to wait a while to try again.
