Liverpool and Manchester United competing for the same Brazilian player

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United want to sign Joao Gomes from Flamengo in the January transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

Liverpool and Manchester United eye Joao Gomes

The Italian news outlet has claimed that Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United have set their sights on the 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder for the next transfer window.

No other information has been provided by Calciomercato.

Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has also credited Liverpool with interest in Gomes.

The Italian journalist has written in CaughtOffSide that Liverpool scouts have been monitoring the Flamengo midfielder.

Romano added that many other top teams in Europe are also keeping an eye on the 21-year-old.

Manchester United were actually linked with Joao Gomes in the January transfer window.

According to Coluna do Fla in August, United were willing to pay as much as £32 million to sign the Brazilian youngster.

Interestingly, it was also last month when Gomes told ESPN Brasil that Liverpool are a team that he would love to play for.

Stats

Gomes has made 14 starts and five substitute appearances in the Brasileirão so far this season.

The 21-year-old has given one assist in those matches.
