Alisson has hailed Arthur Melo after his Brazilian international teammate decided to join Liverpool on deadline day last week.
Liverpool are pretty much the antithesis of a deadline day club.
The Reds love to have their business done early and once Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay were on board, it sounded like Liverpool were done for the summer.
A midfield injury crisis forced a change of plans though and Liverpool struck a late loan deal for Juventus misfit Arthur.
Alisson has hailed Arthur Melo
This move caught many by surprise, especially because Arthur completely fell out of the plans under Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus.
After just two years at Juventus, Arthur has been moved on once again.
It was a similar story at Barcelona, where Arthur played for just years before being offloaded to Juventus.
Once considered to be a top talent at Gremio, Arthur just hasn’t been able to consistently show his quality in Europe.
Some will question whether Liverpool’s high-intensity style will really mesh with Arthur, but he has been given another chance to shine with a top club.
Arthur is lacking in match sharpness and was only on the bench against Everton on Saturday.
It’s unlikely that Arthur will start against Napoli in the Champions League tonight, but he has at least been hailed by a new teammate.
Well, we say new; new on the domestic scene at least.
Goalkeeper Alisson knows Arthur from the Brazil international scene, as do other Liverpool stars like Fabinho and Roberto Firmino.
That will help Arthur’s settling in period and Alisson has told Sky Sports that he thinks Arthur is a ‘fantastic player’ and predicted that he will ‘do well’ at Anfield.
Alisson also feels that Arthur is an ‘amazing guy’ and is backing him to make the transition from Italy to England seamlessly.
“Everything was so quick. I only spoke with him on the day he came to Liverpool, then after that at the training ground. He’s an amazing guy, you’ll know more when you see him on the pitch,” said Alisson.
“He’s a fantastic player and I’m looking forward for him to be fully fit. We know it’s not easy going from one country to another, I did the same coming from Italy. But the football is the same and with his qualities and attitude, he can overcome any of these small problems. I really believe he can bring some quality to the team and he will do well,” he added.
