Southampton should attempt to sign Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne this summer.

Ralph Hasenhuttl the head coach

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl will undoubtedly be keen to bolster his ranks at St Mary’s this summer.

It could actually be argued that the Austrian needs to strengthen in every position.

One area in need of particular attention, however, is the Saints’ right-back department.

Cedric Soares is likely to leave this summer, according to Portuguese media outlet Diario de Noticias.

If the Portuguese does leave St Mary’s, that would leave Yan Valery as Hasenhuttl’s only right-back option.

And with this in mind, Southampton should attempt to re-sign Nathaniel Clyne from Liverpool.

According to Goal, the 28-year-old is available for just £15 million this summer, and the Saints cannot afford to miss out on the chance to bring the pacey defender back to St Mary’s.

He wouldn’t need time to adjust

The Stockwell born right-back spent three years with Southampton, making 104 appearances in the process, so he would surely hit the ground running on the south coast.

Pace and style

Clyne possesses impressive pace, and he plays very much as an attacking full-back – something that makes him ideally suited to Hasenhuttl’s system.

Experience

Southampton have a very young side, so the 28-year-old Liverpool man would add some much-need experience to Hassenhuttl’s set-up, and that would undoubtedly prove to be vital to them next season.

Clyne, who earns £70,000 per week according to Spotrac, would be an excellent addition for the Saints, and the club’s fans would surely be happy to see him back.
