Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to battle it out for Champions League glory next week.

Liverpool ace Gini Wijnaldum sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and offered high words of praise for Tottenham, suggesting that he noticed how tough Mauricio Pochettino’s side were when he played against them in the Premier League this season.

The Reds and Spurs will battle it out for the Champions League trophy in Madrid on June 1st, and both sides will be confident of leaving the Spanish capital with the trophy.

Liverpool finished second in the Premier League table this season with 97 points, two places and 26 points ahead of Tottenham, but the two league matches between the sides were very evenly contested, with Jurgen Klopp’s men winning both games 2-1.

And Reds star Wijnaldum told the club’s official website just how good Spurs can be on their day, suggesting that the north London outfit posed them plenty of problems in the Premier League this season:

“You could see it how tough Tottenham are, if you look back at the two games we played against them, they were really tough – especially the second one. We won in the end, but it could have gone differently in that game. They are a really tough team; we’ve faced them a lot of times and every time it has been tough – we have never played against them and it was easy – so we know what we will have to do.”

Liverpool do go into the game as slight favourites, but Tottenham will fancy their chances of causing an upset, especially if they are on their very best form.

Spurs do have some key players who are closing in on making a return from injury, including the likes of Harry Kane and Harry Winks, and that might just give Pochettino’s side the boost that they need.

Liverpool are an incredibly strong side, however, and if they are on it in Madrid, it will take a herculean effort from Tottenham to stop them.
