Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s superb win against Manchester City in the Champions League last night, and shared what he told his teammates during the half-time interval, as quoted by the Mirror.

The Reds were second best to Pep Guardiola’s men in every department during the first 45 minutes, and were fortunate to be trailing by just one goal heading into the break, after Leroy Sane has a perfectly good goal ruled out.

Jürgen Klopp’s side were an entirely different animal in the second half, though. They pressed City higher up the pitch and seemed to have an injection of energy that was absent during the first half.

Lovren addressed the media after the game, and told reporters the message that he shared with his teammates during the half-time break at the Etihad last night, as quoted by the Mirror:

“To be honest I was shouting a bit at half-time. I told the lads to wake up because it was not good enough and I said were sitting too deep. I needed to remind the guys that we had 50 minutes to be in the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

The Merseyside outfit will now believe that they are capable of beating anyone in the Champions League, after brushing City aside 5-1 on aggregate, and after their performances over two legs against Guardiola’s men, it would take a brave man to bet against them lifting Europe’s premier trophy in May.
