The Liverpool defender has been linked with an exit from the club this summer.
Exit-linked Liverpool ace Dejan Lovren seemed to hint that he will be staying at Anfield this season, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website last night.
The 30-year-old Reds centre-back is a transfer target for AC Milan, according to Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web.
According to the Times, however, Liverpool are demanding £25 million for the Croatia intentional, and it is unlikely that the Italian giants will be prepared to pay that amount.
Lovren, who earns £100,000 per week according to Spotrac, joined the Reds from Southampton in the summer of 2014, for around £20 million, according to BBC Sport.
And Lovren seemed to suggest that he will be staying with Liverpool ahead of the upcoming campaign, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website:
“Like always it [day one of pre-season] was a little bit hard, but I’m glad that I’m here back. The vacation is over, it’s time to work and to get back on track where we stopped. We need to prepare ourselves for the beginning of the season because the schedule is quite tight when you look at it. We will play already for two big, major trophies [in August] so it’s a great opportunity for us and all the fans around the world.”
Lovren is a decent defender, and will be a handy player to have around Anfield for at least another season.
Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip formed a wonderful partnership for Liverpool last season, but should one of those two suffer an injury or receive a suspension, the Croatian’s experience and know-how will be vital for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
And it will surely be in their best interest to keep hold of him this summer.
