There have been many strange transfer sagas surrounding Liverpool over the years, but few quite as bizarre as Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
You would be forgiven for not being aware of who Issahaku is, even if he has been linked with Liverpool.
After all, Issahaku plays for Steadfast FC in Ghana’s second division. The 17-year-old is being touted as a wonderkid, and Liverpool suddenly became touted as a destination.
The story started back in May. Goal reported that Bayer Leverkusen were on the verge of signing Issahaku but Liverpool attempted a last-gasp bid.
The Liverpool Echo then claimed that Liverpool had no interest in Issahaku and were not making a move.
Record added their own spin – that Issahaku is heading to Sporting Lisbon, not on loan from Liverpool despite prior claims.
Now into October, Issahaku’s future remains a complete mystery. There has been no confirmation from Liverpool about any kind of agreement for the playmaker.
Issahaku’s name is at least back in the media now though. The Guardian have named Issahaku as one of the top 60 young talents in world football.

Their analysis of Issahaku claims that the midfielder is arguably ‘the best African prospect of his generation’.
Issahaku is described as ‘electric’ and ‘all-action’. This is all high praise for Issahaku, whose club future is unknown.
Maybe Liverpool do end up striking a deal for the teenager, but Issahaku is a name to keep an eye on either way.
